Plant Stool

Project Type

Wood Working

Date

Spring 2023

Design Brief

The purpose of this project specifically was to push your skills further and get more comfortable with using milling tools and the wood shop. For this stool specifically, I was instructed to try angled joints, cuts, and explore with height for challenge purposes.

The assignment was to completely design and make a stool out of my chosen wood and show the entire process. I was to include a process book, technical drawings, shop drawings, milling process, and test structural integrity as well. When deciding my project purpose, I leaned into what was around me and what purposes I needed fulfilled. This is where the idea of a plant stool came from when observing my own household and what aspects were missing. I chose to use a local wood, Alder, and create a slightly taller than average stool to serve at window sill height for plants. It features a strong lap joint to serve as possible secondary storage or foot rest.
